Letter From Chris Short, GM

I wanted to introduce myself, I am Christopher Short, General Manager here at AWC. For almost twelve years, I have had the pleasure of working and contributing to that we have come to accomplish here at AWC. Over the last seven years, I have been engaged here with the additional seriousness and commitment that comes from being a part owner. I am very fortunate inasmuch as I truly enjoy my job, the people that I work with and the whole process of serving and supporting our Clients. It has been a privilege in all regards. Although the last decade has gone by quickly, my story here actually started when I was 13 years old, as that was the first time I came to know Lynn and Judy. That was when I got to experience the gen one ThunderTrap for the first time during a long range accuracy testing day with then AWC Master Gunsmith Jeff. He allowed me to shoot the AWC M91 BDR .308 16.5” with AWC ThunderTrap –the recoil was almost non-existent. Then Jeff removed the ThunderTrap, gave me a pair of ears and told me to shoot 3 more rounds unsuppressed, I sent the first round and blood started to roll down my face. It was if I had been setup, no, I just was not ready for the recoil that the suppressor had originally removed and soon learned what Weatherby eyebrow was.  In a very real sense, I grew up here, this place is, in many regards my life’s work.

AWC Systems Technologies is America’s largest and oldest suppressor manufacturer, with ten full time employees and a good number of part time our staff is the best in the business. We have expanded out facilities five times over the last thirty years. Even today, as much of the U.S. reels from a weak economy, AWC’s order book has never been stronger and we are in the midst of yet another manufacturing expansion, this time surrounding yet another multi-axis machine. Last year we increased AWC capacity 40% and this year, 2010, we are increasing another 35%. Throughout 2009, the shop practically ran 24 hours a day. With our 2010 order book as it stands at this writing, we will be hiring and expanding yet again.  At AWC, we are experiencing heavy demand caused by a world in conflict.

I also am responsible for fielding your questions, handling government and all international orders. For those of you that have already ordered from AWC Systems Technology, you know how seriously we take sales and service. We pride ourselves on immediate, responsive communication. Even in these remarkable volume months, AWC maintains a very active scheduling system that has provided excellent scheduling for our customers. The same holds true for our civilian sales, where AWC has always provided “stocked” merchandise through our distributors nationwide. I can personally be reached at our contact page or simply by calling me directly at 623-780-0367. I encourage customers new and old to take a few minutes to read both this new website and our 2010 catalog. It is especially informative and represents another year of solid progress and commercial success.

Lastly, I want to close by addressing a question I am often asked here at AWC.  That being “Why do some companies offer 5 or 6 different cans in any given caliber and AWC seems to be able to surpass the requirement needs with one or two?” The answer is best described by a term that was coined here at AWC about ten years ago “Cross Compile,” this came about as a direct result of government contract work for almost 30 years. Cross Compile is the inclusion of all that we know about suppression being immediately implemented into each and every caliber suppressor offering. At its heart, it’s a form of efficient manufacturing design that reflects a systematic and professional way to insure all our customers, all our products, get the latest “new gen” improvements and advancements. If one has to choose between more than “Full Auto, extreme heat” construction and “Precision, low heat” construction something is amiss. Having 6 different, non cross compiled offerings is the hallmark of an approach to design and product marketing that we work very hard here at AWC to avoid. Its confusing,  the military and government doesn’t like it, customers don’t like it, distributors don’t like, and you should ask serious question when you see it  too.

Enjoy the website, enjoy the results of our labors, know that we have been here for 30 years and have every intention, every indication, that AWC will be here to serve you in the future! We are America’s Silent Majority.
